The Unyielding Pursuit of Dreams
In 2012, my wife and I decided to take a leap of faith, moving to New York City with no jobs or leads in sight. The unemployment rate was still high from the recession, but we were determined to chase our dreams. Undeterred by the naysayers, we dove headfirst into the hustler mentality, eventually landing jobs and starting a new chapter.
As the years went by, I honed my skills in graphic design, working with large clients and expanding my portfolio. In 2015, after being laid off, my wife convinced me to start my own design business, working on projects for various agencies and clients. I successfully provided design, strategy, and sustainability solutions for businesses, helping them thrive in an ever-changing world.
However, life is never a straight line. Personal challenges, such as the birth of my son and a battle for work-life balance, threatened to derail my creative pursuits. In 2018, the business started to slow down, and the pressure to succeed was mounting. Despite setbacks, I persevered, taking on a new role and learning valuable lessons.
Navigating Life's Detours and Embracing a Holistic Approach
Then came 2020, and COVID put the world on hold. Business practically dropped to 0 overnight. I took on a new profession, Kindergarten teacher. I taught my son at home for over a year and a half during lockdown. Then school opened again; what do I do now? So, I am, standing on the edge of a new beginning, ready to take on the world with a renewed sense of purpose and determination. This time, I'm armed with knowledge, experience, and the realization that success only comes from grinding while paying attention to the things that truly matter - family, relationships, and personal well-being.
My journey now focuses on striking the perfect balance between design, strategy, sustainability, and business development while remaining anchored to my life's core values. I want to create meaningful, impactful designs that contribute to a sustainable future and help businesses develop and grow without compromising the world we live in. I'm ready to embrace the lessons I've learned, such as fostering a sense of community and connection with others in my industry. We can all learn, grow, and become better designers, business owners, and human beings through collaboration and open communication.
